A straight smile is a good asset at any age
Everyone wants a beautiful smile for social, personal or professional reasons. A straight and white smile is beneficial to both adults and children alike as an individual of any age can benefit from what a beautiful smile can offer. Orthodontics treatment may be used to treat: crowded or crooked teeth, spaces between their teeth or misaligned teeth and jaws. Some patients may find that orthodontic treatment improves the comfort of their bite as well as the function, however the main benefit you will receive from orthodontic treatment is the cosmetic transformation.
Benefits of Straight Teeth
Straight teeth help an individual to effectively bite, chew and speak. You may also be surprised to learn that straight teeth are less prone to decay, gum disease and injury. Straight teeth optimise your dental hygiene as it will ensure the teeth are properly aligned, making them easier to clean as straight teeth minimise the number of hard-to-reach crevices which reduces the risk of food debris getting stuck which can result in plaque and decay.
Orthodontics for Adults
Today, more and more adults are also choosing to undergo treatment, making up more than 25% of all orthodontic patients. This proactive attitude towards a crooked smile can benefit your career as well as possibly enhance your confidence. Research has shown that a more aesthetically pleasing smile can actually improve your prospects and potential at work and in your social life.
Invisalign is also ideal for patients who want to achieve a ‘perfect smile’ as they can be used to correct final alignment issues such as in the image below:
Children & Adolescent Orthodontics
The best age for children to begin orthodontic treatment varies depending on their individual needs. However, the Australian Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have an evaluation by 7 years of age. During this evaluation Millennium Dental Care may take a dental x-ray so that we can predict possible malocclusion and crowding.
Orthodontics at Millennium Dental Care
At Millennium Dental Care Dr Rosenberg is a practitioner of the POS system (progressive orthodontic system) www.posortho.com. Our aim is to align the teeth to suit the patient’s face and smile.
Treatment is often divided into two phases.
Phase 1 is to align the opposing jaws into their correct position and this generally requires the use of plates and can begin from age seven until full eruption of permanent teeth depending on the individual case.
Phase 2 is the placement of braces to align and straighten the teeth. This is generally done when all the permanent teeth have fully erupted.
Many orthodontic problems are linked to health issues and have connections to adenoids, tonsils, middle ear infections, snoring, altered sleeping habits and mouth breathing. Where necessary treatment is carried out in conjunction with ENT specialists to clear airway obstructions and encourage proper breathing techniques.
