What is Different About EVINESSE?
Every manufacturer of skin care will claim that their products are effective. In most cases these claims fall in to one of two categories 1) the products are based on ingredients and formulations similar to, but not the same as, those for which strong evidence exists; or 2) the products are based on ingredients with suspected properties, often resulting from folklore or alternate use.
There are too many ingredients to list falling into the second category, but some of the better known ones are idebenone, green tea extract, and resveratrol. There is no evidence for the effectiveness of these ingredients in skin care. Most of the studies which indicate an effect are industry sponsored, statistically unreliable or poorly constructed studies or studies using inappropriate subjects (eg. hairless mice or human oral ingestion).
The key ingredients falling into the first group are: – Retinoids (Vitamin A) – Hydroxy acids and – Anti-oxidant Vitamins B and C and also (but to a more limited extent) some of the available Peptides.
Many if not most skin care ranges will have some of the ingredients in this category, but there are few if any ranges that have used the ingredients in exactly the same form or formulation as those studied and shown to be effective. Evinesse does – and that is what makes it both different and highly effective.
The reason that most manufacturers don’t use the same form or formulations used in the studies is that many of the most effective ingredients are unstable, potentially irritating or expensive. So manufacturers use similar ingredients. These similar ingredients either have not been studied or have been shown to have low or no efficacy.
Vitamin A: The strongest evidence for ingredient effectiveness is for Vitamin A. What is less well known is that there are more than 10 commonly used forms of Vitamin A. There is strong evidence for the effectiveness of the prescription forms which causes a reaction in 30% of users. There is also strong evidence for Retinal, with the added benefit that it is non-irritating. For all the other forms (including the commonly used Retinol and Retinol Palmitate there is either weak or no evidence. Retinal is however expensive and unstable and needs to be stored in the appropriate medium and formulated only with compatible ingredients. Most manufacturers save themselves the headache and expense and use a form of Vitamin which is cheaper, more stable and also less effective.
Vitamin C: The same is true for Vitamin C although the primary difficulty with the only effective form of Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) is that it will easily oxidize and “go off” (turn brown). Oxidized vitamin C is at best ineffective and probably harmful. Most manufacturers either use an alternate form of Vitamin C eg. Ascorbyl Palmitate or ATIP with little or no effectiveness or don’t worry about it oxidizing.
Evinesse is unique in that it adheres strictly to the evidence, using ingredients for which there is strong evidence, in the correct form and concentration and in formulations and bottles which maintain the freshness and efficacy of the ingredients. When you use Evinesse, you are using products made using ingredients and formulations that have proven to work and work well. And that’s what makes it different.
Ingredients & Actives
Actives: Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids Hydroxy acids have been shown to be effective in increasing cell turnover, production of collagen and fibroblast proliferation, resulting in effective treatments for photo-aging, wrinkles, fine lines, acne, ichthyosis, hyperpigmentation, sallowness, roughness and rosacea
Evinesse ingredients: Glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids in proven proportions, tailored concentrations, the best pH and formulations to maximize efficacy and minimize irritation. Evinesse does not use harsh surfactants or sulfates which irritate and dry the skin.
Actives: Orchid Extract and Aloe Vera A gentle soap free cleanser with botanical anti-inflammatoriy ingredients. Using non-ionic coconut and sugar based surfactants, it is pH balanced to soothe the skin as it cleanses. For use on sensitive skin or as a break from an active regime. Also effective as a make-up remover.
Evinesse ingredients: Botanical ingredients with anti-inflammatory and moisturising properties asre used for a soft clean feel. Botanicals include: Aloe Vera, Orchard extract, Tamanu seed oil, Lavender oil and Camellia Sinesis (tea extract).
Actives: Anti oxidants; ascorbic acid and alpha tocopherol Ascorbic acid has been shown to reduce deep wrinkles, fine lines, skin roughness and hyperpigmentation. It also reduces trans epidermal water loss. In addition, formulations combining Ascorbic acid and Tocopherol are effective in protecting the skin from UVA and UVB radiation. Their protective value is additive when combined with sunscreen.
Evinesse ingredients: The correct form of vitamin C is critical in reversing sun induced skin aging. Poor formulations have been shown to be ineffective or exacerbate skin damage. Unlike most available products, Evinesse antioxidants are in the clinically effective concentrations, pH and formulation.
Actives: Zinc oxide (physical sunscreen) Zinc based sunscreen is generally viewed as the best option in sunscreens. It has protection against both UVA and UVB light rays and is non irritating to the skin. It is more difficult to formulate than chemical sunscreens, but offers superior and instant UV protection and is not toxic.
Evinesse Ingredients: Evinesse uses zinc oxide together with aditional UVA filters to provide broadspectrum protection. Additional UVA filters further reduce skin aging. While the sunscreen is labelled Broad spectrum SPF15, it was rated in testing at an SPF of 23 and was deemed Broad spectrum at that level.
Actives: Alpha Hydroxy and Polyhydroxy acids and Hyaluronic acid Like alpha hydroxy acids, Polyhydroxy acids have been shown to reduce the effects of photo-aging such as wrinkles, fine lines hyperpigmentation, sallowness and roughness. While marginally less efficacious than AHAs, Polyhydroxy acids are less irritating on the skin. Polyhydroxy acids have been found to be compatible with clinically sensitive skin, including rosacea and atopic dermatitis and can be used after cosmetic procedures. Hyaluronic acid has been shown in studies to increase both skin hydration and elasticity.
Evinesse Ingredients: Like those in our cleanser, the Alpha hydroxy and Polyhydroxy acids in our evening serum are in proven proportions, tailored concentrations, the best pH and formulations to maximize efficacy and minimize irritation. Hyaluronic acid is added in the correct concentration and formulation to give clinically effective results.
Actives: Retinal (Retinaldehyde), Alpha hydroxy acid and Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) Retinal is a vitamin A derivative that has been shown to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, increase dermal thickness and reduce cutaneous stiffness. Retinal has equal clinical efficacy to prescription grade Tretinoin but with less irritation than Tretinoin. Glycolic acid stabilizes and increases the bioavailability of Retinal. Niacinamide is an anti-oxidant working to repair cell DNA, decrease trans-epidermal water loss, reduce hyperpigmentation, decrease fine lines and wrinkles and reduce skin inflammation.
Evinesse Ingredients: Retinal in the most effective form, at the correct pH with the least risk of skin irritation. Niacinamide in the most clinically effective concentration and formulation. Retinal and other retinoic acids should only be used at night as they increase sensitivity of the skin to the sun.
Actives: Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 Palmitoyl Oligopeptide (Pal-GHK or glycine-histidine-lysine), is designed to deliver a type I collagen molecule fragment to the skin in order to stimulate a feedback loop resulting in the production of new collagen. Palmitoyl Tetra-peptide-7 is believed to suppress the production of interlukin-6, which promotes inflammation and degradation of the skin matrix. While there is some reasonable evidence for the efficacy of the combination, it has been extensively used and its safety and tolerability is well established. In addition botanical anti-inflammatory and skin conditioning (moisturising) agents (eg. Shea butter, Aloe vera, sweet almond oil and carrageenan) are also included.
Evinesse Ingredients: Peptides and botanicals with some level of evidence and well established calming and moisturising activity are included at the correct pH. Ingredients used, ensure that the Moisturising peptide cream is suitable for use at any time of day or night and on irritated skin.
